I will end this blog by telling you a little about myself. My name is Chassie Looney and I live in Raleigh, MS. I have one little girl named Dalton Claire, she is 3. And I married to my husband Danny. In May I will be finished with my B.A. in Library and Information Science. I hope to work in a school library or the children's department in a fairly large library. I love books. All kinds of books. My little girl also loves books and I hope to instill in her a love of reading. But, also I hope to teach her that you have to take care of your books so you can read them over and over again. Hopefully, she will follow my passion and be a book nerd just like her mama!!!

LIS 457-#4
Reading to your child when they are young is very helpful for them. It not only helps them with letter recognition, but it also helps promote a life long love of reading in the child. I try to read to my little girl at least 30 minutes everyday. The following is a video that I created during the fall semester in my IT 380. It is about reading to you child when they are young. I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed making it.

Anyway, I am posting this picture because right now the Amelia Bedelia book by Peggy Parrish is my 3 year old little girl's favorite book. I started out reading it to her, but now she reads it to me. Or maybe she just has it memorized!! Check it out at your local library today!!

Computer applications are very useful in today's libraries. Libraries can create blogs to let patrons know what's going on in their local library. Many libraries even have their own Facebook or Twitter page. These social networking sites allow libraries to post upcoming events, closings, and special programs that may be coming up. Libraries also offer many useful applications on their library's website. For example, my local library system offers access to the online card catalog allowing patrons to request materials and keep track of the library account. The webpage also offers access to eBooks, online encyclopedias, and other reference works.
For libraries to be successful today it is very important for them to stay abreast of all the technological trends and advances. This is not only useful for the library, but also for the patrons of the library.

The above photo is of the Brandon Public Library's Children's Department. I completed a seventy-five hour practicum experience here during the Fall 2010 semester. The Brandon Public Library is considered one of the "Big 3" libraries in the Central Mississippi Regional Library System.
