LIS 457 Computer Applications in Libraries 1.14.11

Computer applications are very useful in today's libraries.  Libraries can create blogs to let patrons know what's going on in their local library.  Many libraries even have their own Facebook or Twitter page.  These social networking sites allow libraries to post upcoming events, closings, and special programs that may be coming up.  Libraries also offer many useful applications on their library's website.  For example, my local library system offers access to the online card catalog allowing patrons to request materials and keep track of the library account.  The webpage also offers access to eBooks, online encyclopedias, and other reference works.

For libraries to be successful today it is very important for them to stay abreast of all the technological trends and advances.  This is not only useful for the library, but also for the patrons of the library.

Central Mississippi Regional Library System serving the counties of Smith, Simpson, Scott, and Rankin counties in Central Mississippi.  The website contains links to various blogs, online reference materials, log in to your library account (library card number and personal pin required), and also links to numerous other materials, and tools.
